Christos Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 27, 2026
Christos is an iOS Bible reading, narration, discipleship, and focus app. This policy explains what the current version stores on your device, when it connects to online services, and the choices you control.
Information stored on your device
Depending on the features you use, Christos stores the following information locally on your device or in its private iOS app-group storage:
- Bible activity and preferences: reading position, reader mode, narration and display preferences, playback state, and feature settings.
- Notes and highlights: highlighted passages, highlight colors, note text, referenced verses, and created or updated dates.
- Discipleship profiles: names, phone numbers, notes, planned message text, reminder schedules, and completion status that you choose to enter or save.
- Reminders and notifications: local chapter reminders, discipleship reminders, and pending notification actions. Notification content may include details you entered, such as a disciple's name or planned message.
- Focus and Screen Time settings: Apple-provided opaque tokens for apps, categories, or websites you select; time limits; custom reminder text; Strict Mode commitment details; and local event history.
- Audio cache: narration audio and timing files may be cached locally to make playback faster and more reliable.
Notes, highlights, and discipleship files use iOS file protection. Local information remains until you remove it through available app controls, iOS removes cached files, or you delete the app. Deleting Christos removes its locally stored app data, subject to normal iOS backup behavior controlled by you and Apple.
Permissions and optional features
Christos asks for access only when a feature needs it. You can manage permissions in iOS Settings.
- Notifications: used for Bible, discipleship, app-usage, and Strict Mode reminders created on your device.
- Contacts: used only when you choose a person for discipleship or Scripture sharing. Christos receives the selected contact's name and phone number; it does not upload your address book.
- Microphone and speech recognition: used while Christos is visible and Hands-Free Bible commands are enabled. Recognition is configured to run on-device with a limited Bible and playback command vocabulary.
- Screen Time / Family Controls: used to monitor a limit you set and to shield selected apps, categories, or websites during focus features. Apple represents selections with opaque tokens. Christos does not send those selections or your device-usage history to the Christos server.
Online services and information transmitted
Christos uses internet connections for only certain features:
- Bible narration: Christos may stream public-domain Bible audio from Internet Archive. Natural narration is normally generated on your iPhone. If on-device generation is unavailable or background playback needs a prepared file, the text of the requested Bible verse is sent to the Christos narration service so it can return an audio file. The app does not attach your name, notes, highlights, discipleship profiles, or advertising identifier to that request.
- Strict Mode: to provide trusted timing and prevent an active commitment from being shortened, Christos sends the selected duration and later may send a randomly generated commitment identifier and requested expiration time. The server stores the random identifier and start and expiration timestamps. These records are not tied to a Christos account, name, email address, contact, notes, or selected Screen Time items. The current service retains these anonymous commitment records after expiration.
Like most internet services, the hosting provider and Internet Archive may process standard connection information such as IP address, request time, device or network headers, and requested resource to deliver and secure their services. Their handling of that information is governed by their own policies.
Sharing you initiate
When you choose to share Scripture or contact a disciple, Christos opens Apple's share tools or the Messages composer with content prepared for you. Christos does not send the message automatically. You review it and decide whether to send it, and the selected third-party app or communications provider then handles the information under its own privacy terms.
Information Christos does not use
The current version does not include advertising, cross-app tracking, third-party behavioral analytics, or a Christos user-account system. It does not request precise or approximate location. Christos does not sell or rent personal information.
Children's privacy
Christos is a general-audience Bible app and is not designed to collect personal information from children. Parents and guardians should supervise any personal details entered into notes or discipleship profiles.
Security
Christos uses iOS application storage protections and encrypted HTTPS connections for its online services. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but the app is designed to limit network transmission and keep personal app content on your device.
Changes to this policy
If Christos changes in a way that materially affects privacy, this policy will be updated and the effective date will be revised.
